Peter vs. Judas

So I am reading in John 13 this past week, and God shows me something there I've never noticed before. It was quite remarkable actually. The revelation was this --- Peter understood his shortcomings. He had issues and he knew it. But Peter strived to be obedient to Christ despite his issues. His life ended in triumph and glorified Christ. Judas, on the other hand, really had no clue of his shortcomings. His life ended tragically and with complete destruction of his witness for Christ. Yet both of these men had been personally selected by Jesus Christ to be His disciples. Could it be that the deciding factor was their respective ability to "own their brokenness?"

God has been drumming this into me all summer and fall, actually. Townsend & Cloud, the noted leadership authors, have said that the future of Christian leadership rests squarely on the ability of leaders to own their brokenness. John 13:10 is where Jesus says to His disciples (including the broken ones with issues) "... you are clean, but that isn't true of everyone here." How could that be? They were all His disciples. Again, it appears that the deciding factor may just be the ability to own one's brokenness that makes it possible for one to "be clean" in Christ.
