God's Timing

A man once asked the Lord, "How much is a million dollars to you?" The Lord answered, "It is but a penny." Then the man asked, "How much is a million years to you?" The Lord answered, "It is but a second." So the man then asked, "God, could you please give me a penny?" And God said, "Sure, just a second!"

I imagine that even God would get a chuckle out of that one. It's funny, but I guess the importance of this joke is that God's timelessness confronts our understanding. He doesn't live in the dimension of time that binds us. So timing is more important than time in God's world.

Most of us have experienced the dilemma of being obedient little Christian soldiers --- and then having to wait upon God to do what seems obvious. We're certain how God wants something to go down, but we wait and wait for HIm to act on what to us is a clear situation. For the most part, we're wrestling with God's timing --- when His silence just seems incredibly inappropriate.

I have many regrets in my past, and much anxiety about my future. When I drag the weight of my past around with me and worry about the future, of course I'm robbing myself of God's present. It is as if God is speaking to me. Listen to what He says.

"My name is 'I AM.' When you live in the past, it is hard with its mistakes and regrets --- because I am not there. My name is not 'I WAS!'

My name is 'I AM.' When you live in the future, it is hard with all its problems and fears --- because I am not there. My name is not 'I WILL BE!'

My name is 'I AM.' When you live in this moment, it is not hard --- because I am there. My name is 'I AM.'"

God's timing is so perfect. And it is so much more important than my time. "Lord, help me to remember that."
